The Dallas Cowboys look to follow up their best performance of the season as they host the Detroit Lions.

It’s been a tough season for the Dallas Cowboys as hopes for hosting and playing in the Super Bowl have quickly gone to to the wayside as has their head Coach Wade Phillips who has since been replaced by Jason Garrett. The Cowboys responded to the coaching change by putting a beat down on their rivals, the New York Giants, at the New Meadowlands. Jon Kitna looked like a smooth polished veteran as he threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns. Felix Jones and Marion Barber were as effective as they were all season as Jones ran for 51 yards and Barber had 47 yards. Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Jones all had long touchdown receptions of over 40 yards with Jones going for 71. Keith Brooking, Demarcus Ware, and Bradie James all continued to be the best of the Dallas defense and Bryan McCann returned his first career NFL interception 101 yards for a touchdown. We we will find out here is were the Cowboys inspired just because it was Garrett’s first game or will they continue to play to their potential. The Cowboys are averaging 21.6 points per game and 366.8 yards while the Dallas defense has allowed 28 points and 354 yards per game.

The Lions rallied from 14 points down against the Buffalo Bills but they couldn’t convert on a two point conversion and became the Bills first victims of the season. Shaun Hill has seen plenty of action this season as Matthew Stafford is injured once again and won’t be playing. For the season Hill has completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 1,632 yards and 10 touchdowns with eight interceptions. jahvid best hasn’t had a lot of room to run as he has 380 yards and four touchdowns. Calvin Johnson is one of the best in the NFL with 49 receptions and 679 yards with nine of the catches going for touchdowns. Best has 45 catches and Nate Burleson has 30. Louis Delmas leads a vastly improved Lion defense with 57 tackles and Julian Peterson has 50. Ndamukong Suh has six and a half sacks and Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch have four each. Alphonso Smith is one of the top interceptors in the league with five picks. The Detroit offense is averaging 23.9 points per game while the defense is allowing 22.4 points and 351.8 yards per game.

Dallas is 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite. Detroit is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog, and 1-6-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record.

While Dallas was outstanding last week, I’ll believe they can play at that high of a level on a consistent basis when I see it and I haven’t seen it yet. Detroit isn’t getting a lot of wins but they are playing hard and if their record continues to trend as it is, they may be one of the most talented teams to get a top five draft pick in quite some time. I’m not so sure Dallas even wins this one let alone cover any kind of number.
