Two playoff regulars meet as the Indianapolis Colts visit the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots have won six of their last seven games and they bounced back from a tough loss at Cleveland two weeks back by sending a statement to all of the other NFL teams by pounding the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. New England is the top scoring team in the NFL and is if he needed to do so, Tom Brady is cementing his place in the Hall of Fame as he’s thrown for 2,176 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions while completing 64.5 percent of his passes. BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been steady and dependable in the backfield rushing for 472 yards and six touchdowns while Danny Woodhead continues to buck the odds and grinds out the tough yards. Wes Welker is leading New England in receptions with 52 but he has just three touchdowns as Brady has developed a chemistry with Rob Gronkowski who scored six touchdowns on his 19 receptions. Jerrod Mayo is putting on a tackling clinic this year with 105 tackles and Pat Chung is next on the team with 59. Mike Wright has five and half sacks and Tully Banta-Cain is next with three. It’s been a solid effort in the secondary with Chung, rookie Devon McCourty, and Rob Ninkovich each with two interceptions but the secondary has really done a nice job tackling as well. For the season New England is averaging 28.7 points and 338.7 yards while defensively they are allowing 23.8 points and 390.8 yards per game.

The Indianapolis Colts are trying to avoid the jinx of the Super Bowl loser as they usually struggle the following year and while the Colts aren’t a bust, they don’t have their usual stellar record at this point. Peyton Manning has probably faced more challenges this season than any since his rookie year as it seems every week the Colts have more players injured and out. For the season manning has thrown for 2,663 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions while getting sacked 12 times. Joseph Addai has missed the last three games but he is still Indy’s leading rusher and he is questionable for this one but I wouldn’t be too surprised if we saw him playing. In the mean time it’s been running back by committee with Donald Brown, Mike Hart, and Javarris James. Reggie Wayne leads the Colts with 63 catches for 758 yards with three touchdowns and Austin Collie is next with 45 though he has been out with a concussion and is questionable for this one. Antoine Bethea leads all Colts tacklers with 57 and Kelvin Hayden has 51 but like on offense the injuries are mounting and it sometimes seems the Colts can’t go through a series without a stoppage in play for an injury. Hayden, Jerraud Powers, and Aaron Francisco each have two interceptions and Indianapolis has nine as a team. For the season Indianapolis is averaging 26.7 points and 379.3 yards while the defense is allowing 20.6 points and 344.2 yards.

New England is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite, and 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games against AFC teams. Indianapolis is 9-1-2 against the spread when playing a team with a winning record, 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as an underdog, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five as a road underdog. Indianapolis is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings of these two and the underdog is 11-3-2.

These two teams play each other at least once every year and there is always a playoff atmosphere. These teams know each other very well and as we all remember last year, the patriots defense couldn’t stop the Colts and made the pats go for it on a fourth down which they failed to get and was their undoing. The total on this game is set at 50.5 and it has been dropping form there. While the bulk of the time we have seen low scoring games between these two, last year we saw nearly 70 points. I think we see a carry over of last year’s game and we see a lot of scoring and for my free play I see this one going over the total. I also have a pick as to who will cover the spread and I’ll post that in the Premium Area.
